As the year 2020 drew to a close, the virtual fitness industry in Europe saw significant engagement on iOS platforms. Here's a look at how the top five virtual fitness programs performed in the fourth quarter, with data courtesy of Sensor Tower.
Strava: Run, Bike, Hike, a well-known fitness tracking app, experienced a notable increase in weekly active users, climbing from 1.59M in late September to nearly 2M by the end of December. Downloads peaked in early November at around 97K before jumping to over 102K in the last week of December. The app's revenue showed an uptick towards the end of the quarter, with a rise from approximately $209K in late November to over $312K in the final week of 2020.
The interactive training app Zwift: Ride and Run also saw growth, with weekly active users increasing from around 31K to 43K from September to December. Downloads saw a rise in the final week of December, reaching nearly 10K. Revenue for Zwift displayed a steady increase throughout the quarter, ending the year with around $224K in the last week.
Courtney Black Fitness showed fluctuations in its downloads, with an initial decrease followed by a surge to approximately 5.7K in the final week of December. Revenue trends varied, with a notable dip in November but a slight recovery to $163K by the end of December.
Freeletics: Workouts & Fitness demonstrated a strong performance in downloads, with numbers increasing from 14K in late September to over 33K in the final week of December. The app's weekly active users saw a growth trend, ending the quarter with around 280K active users. Revenue also peaked in the last week of December, reaching approximately $229K.
Lastly, Fitbit: Health & Fitness experienced its highest number of downloads in the third week of December with a remarkable 141K downloads. Weekly active users showed an upward trend, growing to around 569K by the end of December. Revenue for Fitbit remained relatively stable, ending the quarter with around $137K.
